Operation block

A little quiet lately, but that's ok. Drawing has been slow but that's ok. I'm going back to sketching for a little while due to a slight block over the last month or so. I've sat down to draw but everything I drew felt slightly forced, so I'm leaving the Asia pastel pieces for a little while and going back to trying to draw free and loose without thinking. I think this will be good for me.

Blocks are funny little things and for me its brought on by too much brain activity in other areas of my life. This week whilst sitting at my desk at work, I suddenly felt an urge, grabbed some paper and did two quick sketches out of the window:

This felt FANTASTIC. Magical. Awesome. They are a bit wobbly.

I've also been becoming fascinated by trees:

The last one is my favourite.

Also have become fascinated with the colours in Lush bath bombs (a nice curveball there for you)

until next time x

  1. Wonderful sketches! The block-thing is funny - I fall into the 'not drawing' thing for long periods of time. Must break that! Thanks for sharing!

  2. Looks like you are doing well at removing the block. When there is too much going on in my life, I have the tendency to draw more. It takes my mind entirely away from what I don't want to deal with (not good really). It's when everything is in balance that works best. I must admit I hardly ever have a 'block'. I have ideas and things I want to do coming out of my nose, eyes and ears. Brrrrrr. Makes me restless.

  3. The block - yet creativity is leaking out everywhere! Nice sketches, and beautiful photos - wow! I read a recommendation once that switching the medium for a while is a way to fight artist's block. Seems to have worked. Seeing art in a Lush bath bomb - this is the Rorschach test of an artist.

  6. That getting started is the hardest thing, isn't it? But once you get going, that fantastic feeling kicks in. Hard to remember every time. Look forward to seeing more of your sketches.

  9. I get the most enjoyment from drawing, rather than painting. So, even though I like the results better when there is color involved, I do occasionally just draw! It always feels like coming back home!

  12. Wow thankyou for all the insights and comments. I think I'm jumping the gun, maybe block isnt the right word, more a sidestep - however the more I look through what I have done, I realise it isnt a block at all, Im being creative in other ways and seeing things in other ways and thats just as awesome and equal as painting. I wasnt even going to post this on EDM but Im glad I did now! x

  14. yes trees!!!!!
    I'm most fond of them
    before the leaves take over
    and obscure their true
    identities.
